Asbestos Litigation

The Asbestos inhalation-induced toxicity to workers and their relatives has been the cause of serious health ailments, including the malignant mesothelioma. Asbestos Litigation is a multi-billion dollar industry of lawyers and law firms that specialize in the provision of compensation to people suffering from mesothelioma and/or other serious Asbestos-related health ailments.

The law aims to provide ?all? that is lost, but fails. The law works to provide compensation for the consequences produced by the carcinogenic Asbestos, and includes the cost of medical care, rehabilitation, lost wages, lost earning capacity, and the affected life enjoyment resulting in emotional distress, pain and suffering. Punitive damages that result in the punishment of the defendants for their unlawful and unethical conduct are rare, and are based on the defendant?s wealth size and misdeed extent.

The ugly side of Asbestos Litigation is its misuse for monetary gain. This fraudulent way of gaining riches has taken its shelter in Asbestos Litigation. People who aim for money have been increasingly involved in filing false cases of Asbestos-induced health ailments. This results in the weakening of the cases of those who deserve compensation for real ailments, and brings many questions to mind. It therefore becomes essential to distinguish real sufferers from the expert pretenders in the market of advertised law and lawyers.

It is often difficult to determine whether someone has been exposed to asbestos, aside from their own personal testimony. Medical research on asbestos in humans is rare or non-existent, since the substance is deadly. The fiber is currently being phased out from all public use.

Asbestos provides detailed information on asbestos, asbestos and mesothelioma, asbestos cancer, asbestos exposure and more. Asbestos is affiliated with Lung Cancer Stages.

Rudraksha The Ancient Indian Power Bead for Success Self Empowerment Well Being and Growth

Rudraksha are beads which grow on select Rudraksha ? Elaeocarpus Ganitras Roxb trees from select locations of South East Asia (Java, parts of Malaysia) and South Asia (Northern India and Nepal). They have powerful Electromagnetic properties which help in controlling Stress Levels, Blood Pressure, Hypertension, and induce tranquil feeling in the wearer. They also improve Concentration, Focus and Mental Stamina. Rudraksha have been widely used by people of Eastern cultures like Chinese, Buddhist, Tao, Japanese, Zen, Korean, and Indian since ages. It was found that wearing these beads around the heart instilled tranquility, and calmness which were found ideal for focused meditation which was an important aspect of Eastern culture.

Rudraksha beads have many other powerful properties in transforming one?s personality and outlook in a positive way. Studies have proven that Rudraksha have Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic and Inductive properties varying for different mukhis or facets and on wearing a particular mukhi or a set of mukhis specific Electrical impulses are sent to the brain stimulating certain positive brain centers (brain chemicals) thereby causing a transformation in the personality, outlook, charisma, and confidence of the wearer. It was also found that wearing Rudraksha beads controlled heart beat, in turn smothering the amount of blood going to the brain. It can be noted that at times of high stress and lack of focus there is a gushing of blood circulation to the brain and vice versa. With the help of these beads a kind of Tranquility, Concentration and Focus was easily achieved. It is found that those wearing Rudraksha beads have among other benefits also found the Stress levels reduced to unexpected levels something which was possible only with heavy and continued dose of tranquillisers. Rudraksha beads emit positive vibrations flushing out all the negativity in physical and mind level.

Thousands of persons who have worn authentic Rudraksha beads have repeatedly confirmed that it has given them considerable relief from Blood Pressure, Stress, Hypertension, Depression, and other mind related problems including neurotic conditions. Rudraksha has been found to boost the confidence and inner strength of the wearers significantly. Apart from the general purpose beads mostly 4,5 and 6mukhis there are more powerful Rudraksha beads from 1 mukhi till 21 mukhi each capable of aligning our mind and the positive energies around us to specific aspects like Prosperity, Creativity, Intutive Ability, Speculation, Sexual Harmony, etc. Surely Rudraksha are the wonder beads helping us perform better and lead a more successful life. Even for achieving success in business or professional carrear it has been found that the blessings of various Gods/Goddesses ruling different facet Rudraksha has proved greatly beneficial and several lives have got a new direction and positive success. However we also say a lot more research certainly needs to be done to really understand the miraculous powers of this powerful bead.

Rudraksha is a seed of a fruit which is covered with a pulp and an outer skin. The skin is green in colour like a banana skin, but when plucked from the tree and allowed to remain as it is, the colour of the skin turn blackish blue. The diameter of the seed is upto 1inch and is nearly round in shape and belongs to the Elaeocarpus Ganitras family. The seed can have `1 to 14 mukhis or facets but Rudraksha till 21 mukhis or facets have also been obtained. The mukhi or facet is easy to count and is a natural division of the seed. A mukhi is a complete line from the top to bottom of the Rudraksha. The Indian epics are full of varying effects of the various faces. Most commonly found is the 5 mukhi which contributes to almost 90% of the entire crop and as the mukhis keep on increasing the rarity of the bead also increases. Prices of the different mukhis is on the availability of the bead and not on the effect of the bead.

Do Supplements Really Improve Performance?

The choice to use supplements is personal... But in my opinion the greatest amount of performance improvement is still made by proper physical training.

Have you ever looked at a Muscle/Bodybuilding magazine or website to get workout tips?

Assuming you have... you know that you can't turn a page without some type of ad for supplements.

It almost makes you feel that you cannot achieve any level of strength, conditioning or fitness without taking one or more of these miraculous, and expensive, supplements.

Obviously, all your physical shortcomings are due to improper supplementation.

Or are they?

If you believe the supplement ad, the reason you don't look like that fitness model in the picture is because you have not been drinking your $40 power shake after every workout.

But most likely it is your choice of physical training methods, stresses, intensities and the frequency of your training that is keeping you from reaching your goals.

Let's take a look at the word supplement for a minute...

These power mixes and concoctions are meant to supplement your daily diet... suggesting that strength, conditioning and fitness cannot be achieved through a regular healthy diet.

Oh, really?

I find it hard to believe that in a society that grossly overeats that the bodily changes that occur because of physical training cannot be supported by proper nutrition and diet... That the daily intake of food needs to be further supplemented by a power shake.

Well, I'm not going to dwell on the effectiveness or uselessness of these products... Ultimately, the choice to use supplements or not is a personal one.

I just want to give you something to think about...

Let's say that there is a liquid formula that you pour into the gas tank of your car that will increase the output of the engine by 10%.

Sounds great... right?

Well, let's also say that your car also has two flat tires, a dead battery and bad breaks.

What do you think will improve the performance of your car more... pouring the liquid formula, supplement, into the gas tank, or fixing the tires, battery and breaks?

The truth is, using supplements is no substitute for proper physical training... and more strength, conditioning and fitness improvements can be made by proper physical training than the use of supplements.

Your time and energy, not to mention your money, will be best spent by participating in an effective, interesting, modifiable and sustainable physical fitness program that focuses on the improvement of the 10 physical abilities needed for strength, conditioning and fitness excellence.

If you are like me, you physically train to improve performance in the physical abilities that will enable you to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence.

These type of improvements do not come in a bottle or powder... but are the result of proper physical training that reinforces your strengths and focuses on improving your weaknesses.

If you really want to become a better human being through physical training... concentrate on your choice of training methods, stresses and intensities.

My advice...

Focus on proper fitness training first... and then decide whether or not you need supplements.

Most likely you will exceed your expectations... without the use of supplements.

Lighthearted Meditation: Playing With Mindfulness

I often meet people who say things like, I've been working on mindfulness for over twenty years.

My response is always this: Oh, you poor thing! Have you tried *playing* with mindfulness? It's very effective, and much more fun!

They tend to look at me like I'm some kind of kook, and then ask the million-dollar question: How can you play with mindfulness? Glad you asked....

We tend to think of mindfulness as something that develops only after years of dedicated meditation. We must sit for hours, contemplate in silence for days, go on retreats for weeks, practice daily for years. Okay, that can work.

The unfortunate thing is that it IS work, and consequently, it's about as appealing to most folks as lying on a bed of nails. Sure, they want to develop a clearer perspective on life. Yes, they want to become calm and contemplative. Of course they want to live more meaningfully and with greater joy. But does it have to be so hard?

Absolutely not. You see, while most people knock politely on that front door of meditation in order to get inside the House of Mindfulness, I like to sneak people in the back door to steal a few cookies. Why can't we play with mindfulness, dance with it, treat it like our favorite goofy cousin who happens to be brilliant instead of our strict uncle who happens to have a Ph.D?

Why can't we tiptoe toward mindfulness through eyes-wide-open exercises that are engaging, uplifting, informative, and--dare I say it--fun?

Mindfulness should be like a big game of mental hide-and-seek: Where am I now? Gotcha!

As a student of Buddhism for nearly 30 years, I have the greatest respect for the Buddha and the philosophy that developed around his teachings. I have tremendous admiration for those who have dedicated themselves to a regular meditation practice.

But it's disturbing to me that mindfulness is seen as belonging to Buddhism and that meditation is seen as the only vehicle that will take us there. This sounds a bit like, oh, attachment? Clinging, perhaps?

I just can't find it in my heart to believe that the Buddha would be ticked off about the idea of developing mindfulness in whatever way works best.

Not everyone likes the idea of meditation, but here's the cool part: those who start off with easy, enjoyable exercises often find themselves seeing the value in sitting still. In fact, many clients say they'd never have started with meditation, but they so enjoyed playing with mindfulness that they have begun a regular sitting practice!

Sneaky? Sure, but that's part of playing. Fun--in whatever form that takes--is what keeps us going back for more. If you're not grinning, you're not winning in this big ol' game of life. If working on mindfulness isn't working for you, try playing instead.

Throw open the doors. Let your inner monk go out and play. It's recess!

Pain Relief Drugs 101 What You Need to Know

Ever given a piece of thought to how actually one feels that a part of his/her body is paining? Majority of the response to this question will be in the negative. And ironically it is one piece of information that a person should be aware of.

Whenever a part of our body is hurt, the pain makes that part ache but the actual sensation is felt in the brain. There are various kinds of receptors in our brain and each is attributed with a different type of sensation. The process can be explained as follows. Every time part of our body is damaged, the damaged tissue releases chemicals ? called prostaglandins ? making the pain more acute. These chemicals on coming in contact with the cells in the damaged tissue, with the help of enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), further release chemicals. Also, these prostaglandins react with the nerve endings to send signals to the brain where the sensation of the pain is felt.

One importance of pain that can be highlighted here is that they keep reminding a person of the hurt, so that till the time injury is healed they are more careful about it. Pain can also result without a direct injury being caused, for example arthritis.

Thankfully because of the advancements of the medicine, various types of medications are available to deal with different types of pains felt. A wide range of medicines start right from one as mild as Aspirin to something as strong as Narcotics, which should be only taken through a proper prescription of a medical practitioner and thus, it becomes necessary to take such medicines with highest degree of caution as every medicine has its own kind of side effects.

One of the most common pain relievers is Acetaminophen (popularly also known as paracetamol , and has established its 30 years of usage. It can also be used for curing fevers in children and adults apart from relieving pain.

As against acetaminophen, Narcotics are also used to cure pain but is adopted if no other medicine is able to effectively affect a patient, even though it is the greatest pain reliever than any medication prescribed. This is due to the numerous side effects that are associated with it, which includes chemical dependence. There are various types of Narcotics (OxyContin, Demerol, Hydrocodone) and have their own set of side effects. One of the most peculiar features of Hydrocodone is that it can even cause death.

There are various cautions that one should adopt while undergoing a pain relief medication, as many risks are associated with it. Primarily one should make the doctor aware of the medicines that are normally taken by the patient in the normal course for ordinary pains or any other thing as they can react with the pain relievers to cause side effects. Also, it should be told to the doctor if the patient is already associated with any disease apart from the on for which the doctor is consulted. Another thing to be kept in mind is that the pain relievers taken by the patient should not be stopped without consulting his doctor.

So now knowing this every one has a reason to take utmost precautions. God bless us all.

Bodybuilding Magic In The Last Rep

Bodybuilding enthusiasts, as well as strength training participants, all want quick, visible muscle defining results. Their main goal is to add different degrees of lean tissue or fat burning muscle to their bodies all according to personal objectives. Bodybuilders want to add as much muscle mass as possible, while fitness enthusiast want to either maintain muscle mass, or slightly increase strength and size. It all depends upon the specific goals and objectives of each participant.

Bodybuilding magic occurs not during the first rep, but the last. Do you know the last, most difficult, repetition triggers 90% of muscle building results?

The main principle in increasing muscle strength and size is overload. If you place a greater stress on your muscles than you had during the previous workout, that specific muscle will be stimulated, and overloaded enough causing an adaptive responsive. This event results in greater strength and muscle tissue development. The adaptive response is dependent upon the intensity of that last magic, muscle producing rep.

Bodybuilding and strength training participants should really focus on conquering that last, near impossible muscle building repetition.A valiant effort of trying to move that last rep will trigger the muscle group to adapt, and grow stronger.

Don't give up too easily when you feel the weight is challenging. Battle that rep for at least 4 seconds. Even if you are unable to complete the full rep, you have succeeded, and the muscle building growth process will follow. That is, only if you have had sufficient rest between workouts. It is not during the bodybuilding workout when muscle building results occur, but rather after consecutive rest days to allow for muscle building compensation followed by overcompensation.

The last rep is the stimulus that triggers this whole process which bodybuilding and strength gains are based upon. Please note, this whole process can be short circuited by not allowing enough rest time between workouts for overcompensation to occur. If you allow your body sufficient rest, your muscle strength will continue to increase with each subsequent bodybuilding workout. If not, you need more days off to recover from the previous workout. You only have a limited number of resource recovery abilities available, so don't short circuit your results by not allowing the recovery process to finish.

Instead of focusing on which bodybuilding supplement brings good bodybuilding fortune, focus on what really matters - the last, muscle building rep. Then allow your body to do the rest.

Your primary goal should be to reach that repetition you can't complete after struggling four or more seconds. If you follow this last rep, maximum stress, followed by sufficient rest principle, then you will see magic in your bodybuilding results.

How to Find a Mesothelioma Lawyer

It is important that you find a good, experienced Mesothelioma lawyer as soon as possible after you have been diagnosed with the disease. The earlier you get to a Mesothelioma lawyer, the better your chances of success.

The firm should be trustworthy and you should have a good rapport with it. If you are considering about filing a Mesothelioma lawsuit, you should meet up with several law firms before making the final decision. There are a large number of law firms who are specialized in filing Mesothelioma lawsuits. In order to choose the correct lawyer for filing your lawsuit, following steps can be followed

Where to start
You can look for a qualified Mesothelioma attorney in bar associations, Yellow Pages, and the Internet. Most law firms have their own sites.

Selecting the Mesothelioma lawyer
After compiling a list of some Mesothelioma law firms in your area, you can try to make contact with them either by email, mail or telephone for further information. Provide the law firms with details of your legal issue and find out if they can handle your situation. Also enquire about their fees for an initial consultation and an estimate of the total costs involved in handling a Mesothelioma lawsuit. If possible, make schedule appointments with two or three different law firms before making the final decision.

Meeting the Mesothelioma lawyer
During the initial consultation, it is important that you and your lawyer get to know each other. After studying your case, the lawyer must be in a position to inform you of your rights and suggest alternative courses of action. Moreover, it?s during this initial consultation period that a Mesothelioma attorney can explain what he or she can do for you and how much it will cost. You must also get informed about the attorney?s experience in handling previous Mesothelioma lawsuits. If you are totally satisfied with the details, you may request a written fee agreement before proceeding and a list of references that you may contact.

Post meeting Analysis
After each initial consultation, try and answer the following questions about your Mesothelioma lawyer - Did the lawyer listen to you, was he knowledgeable about asbestos law, did he give you a firm understanding of your alternative courses of action, did you understood the range of possible results associated with each course of action, did the lawyer seemed trustworthy.

Fees
To lower costs, you may want to ask your asbestos lawyer if a junior lawyer or paralegal can perform some of the work. You may also want to ask if there are some tasks that you can perform yourself to save time and money. An asbestos lawyer may charge a flat fee for a specific task or offer other methods of payment. A contingent fee arrangement is that your lawyer gets a percentage of the compensation money you receive as resolution of your asbestos lawsuit. If you do not receive compensation for the lawsuit then your lawyer collects no fees. A contingency fee is a good option for those unable to pay hourly.

5 Famous Snorers Who Share Your Problem

Snoring is hardly limited to the little people. When you're feeling whatever your snoring makes you feel, whether frustration, pride, hopelessness or anger, take comfort in the fact that you have some famous company.

Winston Churchill was one famous snorer. When he reached his later years, he was quite overweight, drank a considerable amount and smoked cigars, all of which can contribute to snoring problems. He was known for his afternoon naps, when there could be plenty of witness to his snoring.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt suffered from both hypertension and sleep apnea. It is believed that both of these things contributed to his death in 1945. It is believed these conditions made him more tired than he ought to have been, particularly in the mornings.

Teddy Roosevelt's snoring was apparently of deafening volume. During one hospital visit, the other patients were heard to complain about the amount of noise coming from his room. Like many, he put on a lot of weight in his later years. He died at only 60 years old, in his sleep.

President Grover Cleveland was the second heaviest American president, second only to William Howard Taft. Cleveland is thought to have weighed approximately 280 pounds. He was seriously overweight in his last ten or so years. Combined with his love of beer, it is of little surprise that he was known for snoring.

Queen Victoria was only five foot, two inches tall but she was far from a small lady, with a 46 inch waist. She was known for her insomnia, to the point where her ladies in waiting were told to keep her awake during the day, as she was prone to falling asleep and snoring.

This is only a few of the famous counterparts in snoring, but as you can see snorers are in fine company when it comes to their problem.

John Lenaghan writes about operations to cure snoring and other snoring related topics for the Snoring Solutions website. For more information visit http://www.snoringsolutions.org

Allergies Reducing Bedroom Dust Mites

In this article we're going to discuss simple steps for reducing the dust mite allergens in your bedroom.

Dust mites. You can't see them but they're there. And they do most of their attacking at night while you're asleep. Why? Because dust mites generally live in your bed; on the mattress, the pillows, your blanket, just about anywhere you can think of. Enough of these little creatures can make your life a living nightmare.

But there are simple steps you can take to help reduce the number of dust mites you have to share your bed with and hopefully make your sleeping experience a little more enjoyable.

First, a little bit about what dust mites are. They are actually microscopic spider-like creatures that feed on the flakes of your skin. They reside anywhere that is considered to be a dust trap which include the things already mentioned plus your draperies, carpets and upholstery. And since dust is just about anywhere, dust mites are just about anywhere as well. Dust mite exposure is a significant cause of indoor allergies, which are much different from outdoor allergies. These allergies can lead to asthma and hay fever. Studies show that over 45% of homes in the United States have concentrations of dust mites that are considered to be dangerous enough to cause asthmatic conditions.

So just how do we reduce the number of dust mites in our homes?

For starters we can cover our beds with dust proof covers. These are covers that are specially made to go over our mattresses and pillows. These covers are not cheap but the good that they do far outweighs the cost. These covers can be purchased in a department store that sells bedding supplies.

Another thing that can be done is to vacuum regularly, most preferably with a vacuum that has a hepa filter so that the allergens don't end up just going back into the air when the vacuum is emptied. A hepa filter and bagless vacuum is your best bet for keeping the allergens out of your home after you have picked them up off the floor.

Another thing that is very effective for getting rid of the dust mites in your home is to steam clean as many items as possible. Some articles can't be steam cleaned so you have to use caution when doing this so as not to ruin any of your items. The reason steam cleaning works is because dust mites need a dry environment to live in. The moisture from the steaming is what helps kill them.

It should be noted that while these procedures do reduce the level of dust mite concentrations below severe symptom levels, they do not reduce them to the point where people do not still have sensitivity to the allergens, such as sneezing and coughing. Unfortunately it is impossible to completely reduce the level of dust mite allergens to absolute zero unless you are living inside a bubble and the technology for such an environment is not quite yet with us.

Lower Your Blood Pressure the Nutritional Way

Hypertension has been called ?the silent killer? because blood pressure can creep up quietly over time before striking suddenly via a heart attack or stroke. Often, people in their 40?s and 50?s will find out during their annual physical examination that their pressure is climbing, and they may need to go on medication to control it. But before it reaches the point of requiring medical intervention, you can implement some lifestyle changes that may lower your blood pressure before prescription meds are needed. You may want to check with your doctor first, but healthy adjustments like those described below can sometimes make a difference.

1. Get more calcium. Research shows that calcium products can play a role in reducing blood pressure. Look for low-fat varieties of certain dairy products, and experiment to find the foods or beverages you most enjoy. Try to get three servings of calcium-based foods each day. This could take the form of eight-ounce glasses of milk, a combination of yogurt and milk products, or even some foods that contain calcium, like broccoli.

2. Reduce your salt intake. Salt continues under investigation as a probable instigator of hypertension. Keep the saltshaker in the cupboard so you will be less tempted to use it. Don?t salt foods automatically while cooking them, and taste prepared food before adding salt as a seasoning. Beware of hidden salt in processed foods like lunchmeats or as a preservative in frozen foods, especially those that are precooked before freezing. Your body needs some salt, however; so don?t give it up altogether without your doctor?s knowledge.

3. Stay away from fatty foods. Fat clogs the arteries, thus contributing to a rise in blood pressure over time. Cut back on fried foods, fatty cuts of red meat, and foods cooked in oil or butter. Substitute other types of seasonings, like lemon juice or herbs, to replace the taste of fatty flavorings in salads or deep-fried items.

4. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Many disease associations, like the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association, recommend a diet that includes several daily helpings of fruit and vegetables. These can be eaten fresh, frozen, canned, or cooked. Plant foods often contain fiber, which has been shown to reduce blood clotting and improve circulation, thereby contributing to lower blood pressure.

5. Cut back on sweets. Commercially prepared cookies, cakes, and other goodies often contain unhealthy levels of fat, salt, and calories. Eating these too often can interfere with the intake of healthier foods that can help to control blood pressure. When you want to snack, eat low-fat veggie dips, fresh fruit, or baked chips instead of the fried variety.

Changing your diet may not be enough to lower or manage your blood pressure. But it might delay an increase in your numbers, or when combined with other therapies like exercise, stress reduction, and medication, helps to keep your numbers where they belong. Ask your doctor about the role that nutrition might be able to play in controlling your blood pressure.

Would You Like an Alternative to Harsh Drugs for Combating Anxiety Attacks

I am one of the millions of sufferers of anxiety or panic attacks, so I know first hand how bad it can get. It first happened to me just sitting in a chair with some friends talking. There was no stress and nothing on my mind to cause anything, but it happened. I felt this warm flush come over my whole body and my heart begin to go faster and faster. I felt like I was going to explode and finally I couldn?t stay quiet about it any longer. I grabbed my chest, even though there was no pain, just the warm feeling.

It caused quite a stir, and everyone was concerned and my wife called 911. You know the drill, by the time they got there it was all over, but I didn?t know what the heck was going on. They recommended going to get checked out. So the next day I went to the doctor and explained what had happened. Unfortunately they put me on some bad drugs right away. I had no idea what was wrong or what I was taking. This still makes me angry that we are at the mercy of doctors sometimes and they push some drug on us that the drug company pill pushers have given them samples of to throw around.

Anyway, they put me on a 24 hour heart monitor and sure enough I had another bad attack, but you know what, the monitor didn?t so much as so a blip of trouble. They said, oh its just anxiety. They proceeded to ask me if there was anything going on in my life causing stress. There were a couple things, but I didn?t think I was that worried. It was later I begin to find out about physical conditions that caused these attacks.

It was a long battle getting educated and I had to endure harsh side effects from the drugs and when I decided to get off them I had even worse withdrawal effects. This was a real challenge. I finally knew what it is like for a drug addict to deal with. But I was determined I was going to get off the drug no matter what. It literally took 6 months to get past the worst of the symptoms that occurred everyday.

I went through a setback that caused me to have to go on another drug and again went through the same steps to get off the drug with the same 6 months of agony. The good news came to me accidentally as I was searching for help on the Internet. I found information that pointed to a possible connection to my problem.

The following things I found out was adding to my problem and I had to change.
1.caffeine was adding to the problem
2.I could not drink a cup of coffee without my heart racing.
3.I had a period of time that I went on the Adkins diet and the lack of carbohydrates, added to the deletion and absorption of serotonin.
4.I had to get my blood pressure under control as it would spike to 200/135 in several bad attacks
I changed my lifestyle and diet as much as possible, but this didn?t solve the problem. I looked for a way to re-supply the serotonin and control the mood swings and attacks of panic that seemed to come randomly. Sometimes even in my sleep. That never made sense to me, until I learned that panic was brought on chemically and not necessarily from events.

Real help came to me, when I discovered the following formula to help control the symptoms and over time re-supply a lot of the serotonin. I did have to go on blood pressure medicine to get that under control, because even when I was not in panic mode, it was still to high. The following is what I found to really help give me back my life.

I take a Homeopathic medicinal VAXA called Deprex. I am giving this my personal endorsement, but I am sure that each individual may have different results. I have no financial interest in the company other than I want them to be around, because the formula really works for me.

If you are looking for help with anxiety attacks, you can get a lot of free information at their website and read about what all goes into the formula and decide for yourself. The drugs that are popular for controlling anxiety, panic attacks and depression, make the brain reuse the limited supply of serotonin, but this is not all it does. There are harsh side effects as I mentioned before.

The only side effect of the formula I now take is that it has the effect of loosening the bowels, which I needed a little anyway, but sometimes can lead to diarrhea. But that is nothing compared to the symptoms of the harsh drugs I was taking.

I still have little mini attacks that are nothing compared to the attacks I had in the beginning. The doctor said I would always have this problem and that it would run in cycles, sometimes better and sometimes worse. But, since I found this formula, along with the BP medication, I have been pretty much under control for the last two years.

I sincerely hope this brings help and relief for you in your suffering. I know I spent endless hours and days trying to deal with this problem. You have my sympathy, prayers and best wishes.

Tooth Ache Ask the Dental Doc

Dear doc, we went out of town for the 4th of July and I got a raging tooth ache, the tooth had been getting sensitive for a couple of months as I had a filling fall out, but I ignored it and hoped it would go away, it didn?t. Bottom line I had to see an out of town dentist who took and x-ray and informed me I needed a root canal because I had an infection and abscess at the tip of my root, he said if I didn?t I would have to pull my tooth, can?t I just take antibiotics, how did I get this infection?

Dear Don, sounds like you didn?t have much of a holiday. I can only speak in generalities, as I have not examined you. However you mentioned you had pain for several months preceding this episode, and that an existing filling in the tooth had fallen out. In my practice tooth decay is the most common cause of an inflamed pulp, [pulpitis. When active decay is present in a tooth it continues to infect the tooth deeper and deeper until it hits the nerve; once the bacteria reaches the root it can travel down the root and form and area of infection called an abscess. You never know if your cavity is going to decay quickly down to the nerve or slowly, but once it reaches the nerve the damage is done and a root canal will have to be done or the tooth extracted. The tooth will be extremely painful and sensitive until something is done. The antibiotics you mentioned will help clear up the infection, but because the source of the infection is still present you infection and pain will re-occur. Don the good news is that most teeth today can be saved with root canal therapy, when preformed by an experienced dentist.

The moral of the story is one of vigilance; if you notice something out of the ordinary occurring in your mouth, don?t ignore it. My professional experience has shown, that Small problems ignored, will only get worse, cause more pain and cost more!

Better smiles for all,

Weight Loss and the Glycemic Index

Okay, the first couple of paragraphs might sound slightly complicated, but it gets easier after that. Bear with me.

By definition, the glycemic index (sometimes abbreviated GI) is a way of ranking carbohydrates based on the short-term or immediate effect they have on your blood glucose level. When carbohydrates break down rapidly they are given a higher glycemic index than those that break down more slowly. Those with a high GI are digested more rapidly and encourage a rapid increase in blood glucose while those with a low GI are digested more slowly and release glucose into the blood stream more gradually.

The glycemic index of a food is expressed as a number. This number can be arrived at a couple of different ways, but in all cases, some food, often glucose itself, is considered to be 100. In some cases, researchers may assign another food a value of 100 so that they can compare a particular diet to that particular food...perhaps a food that is a staple in the diet being examined.

WHAT THE GLYCEMIC INDEX MEANS FOR YOU

As we said, foods with a low GI take longer to digest and release glucose into the blood stream more slowly than foods with a high GI. Regular and sustained consumption of high GI foods has been linked to an increase in obesity and the development of metabolic disturbances. In fact, testing seems to show a link between weight loss, or at least weight management, and a diet which relies heavily on low GI foods. Studies also seem to show that there are other positive health effects as well in addition to the improvement in health that may occur as a result of healthy weight loss.

Eating a low GI diet over an extended time seems to result in a lower risk of Type II Diabetes and coronary heart disease. A low GI diet may also lower risk of atherosclerosis.

PROBLEMS WITH CHOOSING A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX DIET

While a close approximation to the GI of a food can be given, actual GI of that food may depend on a range of factors, including how ripe it is, how long it has been stored, where it was grown, and the processing it has undergone. The GI of a food may actually fluctuate from individual to individual, and even within the same individual depending on factors such as time of day, blood glucose levels, and the person's health to name a few. Additionally, since few foods are eaten alone, it is difficult to estimate the GI of a combined dish or meal.

Despite these drawbacks, the GI of a food or a meal can be estimated with some accuracy, and with proper knowledge of the GI of various foods, a diet can be constructed that will help an individual lose weight while maintaining health. There are charts, graphs, and even weight loss programs that have ranked and ordered foods and meals by their GI and can present these to the consumer as a finished package, product, or reference. Some well known weight loss programs which use the GI of foods to construct their eating plans and products are the South Beach Diet, the Atkins Diet, and the Nutrisystem Weight Loss Program.

FOODS WITH A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX

As might be suspected, foods with lower GI's include most common fruits and vegetables, drinks and juices made from fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, eggs, most dairy products, fish, poultry and...oh happy day...chocolate. Low GI foods are generally considered to be those with a GI of 55 or lower.

GOOD CARB VS. BAD CARB OR GLYCEMIC INDEX

Generally speaking, bad carbs tend to be foods with a high GI, while good carbs are foods with a low GI. As can be seen from the list above, choosing healthy carbohydrates, or low GI foods, does not have to be a chore. It is simpler for an individual to begin substituting healthy, low GI, foods and snacks for higher GI foods such as extra slices of cake, white bread, refined rice, foods sweetened with sugar, and potato chips, than to try to subsist on many of the eating plans offered by fad diets.

Virgin Coconut Oil And Weight Loss Is It Only A Hoax?

Many studies and facts have shown that virgin coconut oil is effective in helping to reduce body weight. It contains fewer calories than other fats and also has a group of fats known as Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCT) that are used by the body as an instant source of energy.

MCT are easily digested by the body and they don?t produce body fat.

Hence, numerous studies and experiences in the past have led us to a conclusion that if virgin coconut oil is added consistently to a balanced diet, it shall show incredible results in weight loss.

But, why there are still some people who complain that they just couldn?t lose weight after consuming virgin coconut oil?

Well, I say we have several possibilities here. There are some factors that could influence the weight loss results in this case:

1.How long have you consumed virgin coconut oil?

2.How old are you?

3.How are you, really?

The answers to these questions do influence the effectiveness and the performance of virgin coconut oil in your weight loss program.

Many people don?t comprehend this fact and they give up consuming virgin coconut oil in a short time, because they don?t see a significant loss in their weights.

I say this is a mistake.

If you want to learn more about these factors, I suggest you read this useful article on Virgin coconut oil and weight loss

You shall find more detailed explanations there?

Understanding Hair Growth To Lose Unwanted Hair

Hair growth is one of the most amazing aspects of the human body. And, although you have thousands of hairs all over your body, you probably think nothing of it. Did you know that once a fetus is about 22 weeks old he has developed five million follicles all over his body? And, that is all he will ever have too. Now, what else can we learn about the biology of hair?

What?s It Made Of?

The anatomy of a strand of hair is amazing. First, there is the follicle which is actually embedded into the skin. The hairs grow from the follicle through a shaft. The papilla lies at the base of the follicle as one of the many layers of the follicle. Next, capillaries help to connect the papilla to the blood supply. These surround the bottom of the hair called the bulb.

There are two sheaths that are in place to protect the hair shaft from being damaged surrounding the follicle. In one of them, runs next to the hair shaft and stops at the sebaceous gland. The other, the outer sheath, runs from the glad and stops at the erector pili muscle.

Keratin is dead protein cells that are what make up the hair shaft. The inside layer of them is the medulla. The second is the cortex and it provides the most hair shaft. Hair color is determined in this layer. The cuticle is the outside most layer and it has a series of overlapping cells. The luster of the hair comes from this layer.

How Growth Happens

Hair growth happens in three main stages. Did you know that your hair will only grow .3 to .4 millimeters per day? That is only six inches per year! Although it seems like it grows much more it really does not.

The Stages:

Catagen Phase: This is the transition phase. It lasts about two to three weeks. There is no hair growth now, as the goal is for the outer portion of the hair root sheath to shrink and then attach itself to the root.

Telogen Phase: The resting period. About 15% of your hair is in this stage at any given time. It takes about 100 days for the scalp hair and much longer for the body hair to go through this stage.

Anagen Phase: Hair cells are dividing and new hair growth is happening. It can last for as long as two to six years! Do you have trouble growing your hair long? This happens because your hair in this stage does not last nearly this long.

What Can Go Wrong?

There are several hair abnormalities that can happen. These hair disorders can strike just about anyone, but are in most cases rare. One, hirsutism is when individuals, mostly women, have excessive hair growth that is in odd places. For most women, the hair is darker and coarser than it should be. It can occur on the face, chest or the areola.

Another condition known as hypertrichosis is very rare and happens when individuals suffer from hair that grows thickly in areas of the body that it normally would not.

These conditions can be treated fairly well if help is sought out. Hair growth, while a very common and seemingly ordinary thing, actually is much more complex than people imagine. But, understanding how it works can help you to understand how to rid your body of unwanted hair.

All About Sleep Apnea

Do you feel restless, have morning headaches, feel irritated, is forgetful, sweat at night, frequently go to the toilet etc? If yes, then you are probably suffering from sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder in which the patient suffers from pauses in breathing while asleep. In layman terms, the person while asleep forgets to breathe, which causes restless sleep and consequent problems associated with lack of sleep. Its most serious consequence is to the heart and may lead to congestive heart failure.

Symptoms:
The main symptoms are restless sleep, loud snoring with silent periods in between followed by gasping, morning headaches, forgetfulness, mood changes, anxiety, depression, frequently urinating, sweating at night, bedwetting, increased heart rate etc. However the individual suffering from sleep apnea does not feel difficulty in breathing. A spouse is the best person to indicate whether the individual has breathing problems.

Diagnosis:
A definite diagnosis is obtained by polysomnography. Polysomnography is a multi parametric test for studying sleep. It monitors brain function (EEG), eye function (EOG), muscle function (EMG), heart function (ECG), breathing function etc.

Types:
There are two types of sleep apnea Central sleep apnea and Obstructive sleep apnea. In central sleep apnea, the breathing is paused due to lack of effort. In obstructive sleep apnea the breathing is blocked even though there is an effort to breathe.

People With High Risk:
Sleep apnea affects both children and adults. Obese people, individuals with flabby muscles, increased soft tissue near the airway, heavy face and neck etc are more at risk compared to normal individuals. Children mostly suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and are usually over tired or hyper. Due to sleep apnea the children tend to be thin and not grow properly.

Treatment:
The treatment deals with removing the obstruction from breathing. In children the obstruction is usually due to tonsils or adenoids and are cured by tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy. In adults if the obstruction is due to enlarged lymphoid tissues, then steroids are prescribed to reduce the swelling. Medicines like methylxanthine theophylline and amphetamines are used in treatment of sleep apnea.

Life style changes are also advised such as avoiding alcohol, medicines like muscle relaxants and sedatives, losing weight, quitting smoking etc. Some times, changing the pillow or changing the direction (sideways, on back, on chest) also helps. Avoiding sleeping on the back is very effective. For this keep a tennis ball in the back pocket of your trouser, this way it will be uncomfortable to sleep on the back and you will unknowingly shift to sleep sideways. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is a strong method used when other methods are not working. In this method an oxygen mask with positive air pressure is attached to the patient while sleeping. Many people have found relief from using CPAP. Neurostimulation is under study to treat the disorder from a neurological angle.

Hypnosis to Stop The Overweight From Stuffing Feelings by Stuffing Food

We've learned about ?emotional eating habits?, those eating behaviors that are related to emotional longings rather than the body?s real need for nutrition. The first thing we explored was the infantile programming to overeat created by the common practice of bottle feeding when accompanied by parental neglect. We learned how to heal these traumas from infancy and thus permanently change these habits. In this article, I will address the use of food to suppress emotions, in other words, stuffing one?s feelings with food.

Many of us were raised in families where the expression of feelings was discouraged or even punished. Such phrases as ?Shut up or I?ll give you something to cry about!? or ?Children should be seen and not heard? represent extreme but regrettably common examples. More frequently however we find the parent who is simply too busy and stressed to listen to their children?s feelings and needs. Sometimes children discover on their own that eating some food can help them suppress their anger and tears. Sometimes they are programmed by their parents to eat in this dysfunctional way.

A child cries with pain, or needing some attention, and even a well-meaning mother will shove a bottle into the child?s mouth or give her a cookie to silence her. It doesn?t take long for the child to learn this life-long eating habit.

The solution is to return the client in trance to the time he or she first learned to stuff their feelings with food. Then we can bring in the resource of the client?s adult self to encourage the child to express their feelings. As a therapist I will often need to encourage my client to express their feelings, anger, tears, etc. in a loud voice. ?That?s good! You tell them! You deserve to be heard? are all expressions I frequently use. Then we use the empowered adult self along with, if necessary, the presence of a new inner parent to respond lovingly and approvingly to the child?s expression of feeling. Then we help the child experience the incomparable joy of their needs being met. The client is encouraged to feel in their bodies the fulfillment of these experiences. Finally, we bring this newly developed skill of expressing feelings into the client?s present life and present communications, sometimes through assertiveness training, sometimes through mental rehearsals. In effect, we are training the client?s subconscious mind to express feelings safely and confidently.

Here?s an example. Sarah (not her real name) is 50 lbs. overweight and reports that stuffing her feelings is a problem. Her subconscious mind takes us to a memory of her mother and her in the kitchen. She?s crying about a broken toy, and feeling neglected by Mom who?s on the phone. Mom hands her a cookie along with a look that clearly implies she is not to be disturbed. While this kind of daily neglect rarely gets the media attention of sexual or violent abuse incidents, it is these supposedly mundane events which repeated often enough produce the syndrome we?re describing in many of my clients. Our therapeutic intervention begins with bringing in the client?s adult self. The adult self tells mother that she is making a big mistake. I encourage her to loudly express her anger. Mom is immediately remorseful. Then we ask her child to express her tears again, which she does out loud. Then, we gently instruct Mom in how to listen to her child?s needs and respond to them (If Mother were less warmly responsive it might have been necessary to release her and replace her with a new mother in the client?s inner world. This would not significantly affect the adult Sarah?s relationship with her present time mother, but simply provide a symbolic new resource for the child of the past.) We then embed this new resource in the client?s body and memory, with words like ?Now breathe in that wonderful feeling as Mommy holds you. And now she?s looking at your broken toy, and promises she?ll get you a new one soon. Now she?s going into your room and helping you find another toy to play with. Breathe in this wonderful feeling. Notice how wonderful it is to let Mom know how you are feeling. This is how she knows to take care of you.? These words are called ?counter-programming suggestions? and are essential to re-enforce new core beliefs and behaviors.

Now we link this new resource to every time she feels an uncomfortable feeling in her present life. ?Now every time you have an unpleasant feeling, the kind that made you want to eat, we remember how safe it is now to tell your husband or children how you feel.? I then walk Sarah through a quick rehearsal of expressing this feeling to her husband. I may even advise her on the best ways to express her feelings to him in a style that he finds it easy to respond to. We?ll also follow through in our rehearsal to see that her needs are being met afterwards in some way. I can give her more help in her skills of emotional expression. ?Perhaps instead of blaming him we could just tell him how this behavior makes you feel?? I persist in this rehearsal until her communication is comfortable, and it works to get her needs met. While shouting and crying may be a useful part of the client?s therapy, opening up the channels of emotional expression, it isn?t so useful in our daily family lives. Instead the client needs to develop adult communication skills, which in many cases have never been properly developed.

We re-program half a dozen similar memories provided by Sarah?s subconscious mind in this way. This includes both repeated rescue missions for her child of the past and lots of mental rehearsals of her new communication skills in her adult life. After only four hours of therapy, and two weeks later, Sarah reports. Not only is she eating far less, she is finding her relationships are changing in dramatic and wonderful ways. Her experiences of victimization and powerlessness are disappearing, and love and intimacy are growing in her family. And she is losing weight. She tells me however, that the other changes in her life are much more important to her than the lost weight. She is already beginning a life that is no longer ruled by her weight issues. I find it typical of my work with weight issues that many other aspects of the client?s life change dramatically for the better as we work, because we are addressing core problems, of which weight per se is only one symptom.

In our hypnosis, we will explore how compulsive eating is programmed to replace creativity in our lives. How we recognize when this is happening, and how we fix it.

Major Depression and Its Serious Complications

When suffering from clinical depression, people have different ways of confronting it. Some acknowledge it, face it just like any problem, and seek help. Some ignore it as if it doesn?t exist. And others simply accept that it?s there but they don?t do anything about it. In fact, they don?t even ask for help.

Those who ignore and don?t do anything run the risk of developing the serious complications of depression. Like any medical disorder, untreated clinical depression has its hazards.

What are some of the complications of clinical depression? How serious are they?

Suicidality

Without treatment, some depressed individuals feel hopeless, helpless, and worthless. Subsequently, thoughts about death occur. They sometimes feel that they are better off dead than alive. As the illness worsens, suicidal thoughts and behavior gradually ensue.

Homicidal Behavior

Although rare, homicidal behavior can happen to someone with significant level of depression. In fact, a few high profile cases in the media had point to some cases of clinical depression and homicide. Severe depression can result in impaired judgment, making these depressed individuals vulnerable to cause harm.

Psychosis

Clinical depression likewise causes disturbances in perception and thinking. Some individuals with severe depression experience auditory hallucinations (?hearing voices?) and delusions (false fixed beliefs). Hallucinations can manifest as inappropriate commands telling the person to do certain things such as to harm oneself or others. Delusions can range from suspiciousness to bizarre beliefs such as the thought that the person is the ?Anointed One.?

Functional Impairment

It?s very common for depressed individuals to develop lack of energy and loss of interest to do their usual activities. These individuals can hardly do their usual chores, prefer to isolate themselves from everyone, and stay in bed the whole day. Work absences, financial problems, and job losses may be the inevitable end result.

Relationship Problems

Due to ongoing behavioral and thought disturbances, some family members don?t understand what is going on. Fights, ridicule, name-calling, and arguments between spouses or among family members can happen. As the relationship becomes more strained, the individual becomes more distant from friends and relatives. It is not uncommon to see unsupportive spouses, parents, and children during these difficult times.

In summary, clinical depression has fatal consequences. Ignoring it is too risky. Doing nothing about it is a grave mistake. Early recognition and treatment is the only way to prevent its unwanted complications.

Are Home Diagnostic Kits Reliable As A Substitute For Professional Medical Opinions?

Let?s face it. A trip to the drugstore is a whole lot easier than a costly and time-consuming trip to the doctor?s office. No time wasted waiting for the physician; no embarrassing questions to answer; and no sticker shock when the bill comes. Just head for the section of your pharmacy with all of the gadgets and home test kits and you are ready to ?play doctor.?

With skyrocketing medical costs and increased concerns about privacy, more and more Americans are taking advantage of products designed to help monitor existing conditions or to help diagnose new ones. Blood glucose monitors help diabetics manage their condition, blood pressure kits help monitor hypertension while those with cardiovascular concerns can track cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Of course, home pregnancy kits have been available for years. But now it is possible to go well beyond health management with these off-the-shelf products and individuals can now perform diagnostic tests in the comfort and ?safety? of their homes.

But is this trend really safe?

Health care professionals have expressed concerns that the use of home test kits may cause users to delay or avoid proper medical care. Misinterpreting the results of self-administered tests can lead to decisions that are based on false assumptions. For example, there have been reports of people changing their medication dosage based on results of blood pressure readings at home. Decisions about any treatment based on self-administered tests should be deferred until a physician confirms them.

The list of conditions for which home diagnostic products are available is expanding rapidly. It is now possible to test for drug use, alcohol use, HIV, prostate cancer, hormone levels, diabetes, blood type, anemia, allergies, hepatitis, cholesterol levels, fertility and even certain strains of flu.

The opportunity is always present for a user to improperly administer a test or to misunderstand the results. Delaying treatment based on these results could have serious consequences. Now that the number of tests available is so large, and the conditions so potentially serious, it is absolutely critical that these test results be validated by a doctor.

Given this diverse menu of tests, users are sure to get results for which they may be unprepared. A positive reading for HIV could be devastating. Health care professionals are trained to address the concerns and possible psychological issues faced by a patient receiving bad news from a test. Individuals trying to cope with a similar result at home may find themselves alone and unable to cope.

Home health tests should be used with great care and should never be considered as a replacement for proper medical care. If you are seriously concerned about your health and well-being, it is fine to practice a bit of do-it-yourself medicine? as long as you get a second opinion.

Ortho Tri Cyclen Guide

This prescription birth control pill is a tablet, taken once daily. It has an additional benefit of clearing acne from your skin and keeping you beautiful.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is usually a good idea for women who are at least 15 years old, and who have to deal with with mild to moderate acne and have reached menstruation. You must have no known condition or symptom that would stop you from using a birth control pill, and do not respond to topical acne medications.

How Is This Medication Used?

To ensure that your Ortho Tri-Cyclen remains highly effective, you must take your prescription at the same every day. Come up with a time you will easily remember; for example, in the morning after your brush your teeth. Want To Lose Weight Fast? Try This Fast Weight Loss Exercise

High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT as it is commonly called is one of the best exercise methods for excellent fat loss and muscle retention. Most people know that long aerobic exercises like running is catabolic (muscle loss). That is why long distance runners are... skinny. HIIT will burn your fats and yet not losing as much muscles as other cardio exercises. All sprinters incorporate HIIT in their training program and they are muscular and yet having very little body fat.

HIIT is performing a cardio exercise such as running at a very high intensity then at a lower intensity and repeating the cycle again and again. It can be very gruesome and beginners are advised to take it slowly at their own fitness levels until they build up better stamina. You can perform it on a stationary bike, StairMaster, mountain bike, treadmill etc. But the most efficient for fat burning and stamina building is running. One thing is for sure, you will be lose weight fast.

A common interval training program is the slow jog-fast sprint interval training. Warm up and stretch thoroughly before you commence HIIT. Then start out with a 1 minute jog / 1 minute sprint as fast as you can. For beginners, you can try 2 min jog then 1 minute sprint or adjust the cycle to suit your stamina. For more challenge, try to sprint up hills or inclines and slow jog down. Or use the 30sec/30sec cycle instead of 1 min each.

Perform HIIT 4 to 5 times a week for 20-30 minutes and watch your fats melt away fast. Do weight lifting exercises in between HIIT days and eat correctly for greater results and a fantastic body.

Remember, it has to be intense during the sprint phase for it to be very effective. Otherwise, it will just be another cardio exercise you see people doing day in and day out without any real results. You should be extremely tired, sweating profusely, huffing and puffing when you are done. If you are not, you have not been performing HIIT correctly.

As your stamina improves, you can lengthen the time on sprinting and shorten the time for the slow jog. For variations, you can adjust the timing and speed frequently. You can also prevent boredom by choosing different locations for a change of scenery and freshness rather than be on the treadmill all the time.

Interval training is a fun and excellent way to burn fats and lose weight fast while building endurance at the same time. It beats the monotony of jogging and yet getting much better results.

You are advised to get your doctor's clearance before you start doing HIITs for it can be very grueling especially for the beginner. But when your stamina builds up, you will enjoy the power that HIIT exercises can give you.

Try it! You can almost see the fats melting away right before your eyes

Questions to Ask Mental Health Professionals About Depressive Illness

If you or someone you love visits a therapist, there are questions you need to ask to avoid problems. Some therapists are more advanced than others are. I can tell you that some are not qualified to diagnose anything that is more complex. If you suspect you have a disorder, the best thing you can do is get accuracy on those symptoms, research your behaviors, and write them down.

If you go to the therapist you will be ahead of the game, and by learning more about your own behaviors, symptoms, and so on can save you from a diagnose you may or may not have. Therapists as a rule base their treatment on the thought patterns, which includes hearing and talking. If the patient shows a disturbance in their thinking patterns, the therapist will consider psychosis, since this is a symptom related to the diagnosis.

They will search for signs that the patient may demonstrate, including vague thoughts, fleeting ideas, peripheral thought patterns, blocking thoughts, disassociation and so forth. Counselors often search for evidence of schizophrenia or psychosis when there is a break in reality, paranoia etc.

Paranoid and Paranoia are separate from the other, and must not be misconstrued. Professionals could make a mistake in diagnosis if they are not aware of the difference of paranoia and paranoid. Schizophrenias are often paranoid, while patients that suffer posttraumatic stress in the early stages may illustrate paranoia.

When a patient answers out of content, or else the ideas delivered are unrelated to the conversation then there is a potential mental illness. For example, we are discussing society, and the patient says, ?I never go there. After I get back from Australia next week we can do that.?

An area of concern is when the patient is talking fragments. The patient will start with one idea and jump to several other ideas. This pattern is known as fleeting thought processing. When the patient is illustrating thoughts that are sidetracked, the therapist may show a degree of concern.

Language is important when evaluating a patient, since some patients may not have sufficient skills in communication it could very well mean a lack of education rather than a diagnosis. If you have been talking individually to a therapist, and this is the only symptom, make sure that the patient is not on medications he or she may not need.

It is important to pay attention to symptoms and signs that link mental health problems and other issues. Ask the therapist questions any time there is a diagnosis, what the symptoms include, and what medicines can do to treat the disorder. When a person is suddenly, loosing a train of thought during a session this may be a possible diagnosis.

If a person is telling you about a dream related to his or her parent, and all of a sudden claims they cannot remember what they were talking about, this is an evident sign of some disorder. Most likely, this patient has suffered trauma. The symptoms are in front of you and it is important to continue treatment to find which diagnosis the patient may have.

Unfortunately, most therapists are not trained to treat patients with Multiple Personality Disorders, and often these people pay a steep price. The sign or symptom is known as disassociation or blocking memories and this is a definite sign or Multiple Personality Disorder. Multiple Personality Disorder is often exclusive in blocking memories to avoid pain.

It is always wise to ask questions when you are visiting any therapists since anyone can make mistakes without the complete medical picture and your mental health is important and should not be taken lightly.

Coping With Psoriasis & The Psychological Effects

Any damage to the skin is good enough a reason for a person?s self-esteem to take a nosedive. This happens most especially when the lesions have spread all over the body which no amount of clothing can conceal. The way the affected person looks at himself may not differ much from how the world sees him. This first, and probably the most important, step is to choose a doctor that is not only intellectually fully-equipped but can provide psychological guidance as well.

The patient must learn how to communicate with his doctor in order to be able to make educated treatment decisions. This will help a great deal in controlling one?s psoriasis. Another step is to accept the situation at hand. While it could prove to be really difficult to accept the fact that ones physical makeup will not be that of the norm anymore due to the lesions in his body, it is very crucial to embrace the situation. When he starts to recognize what is and what is not, that is when he will be able to assess the situation at hand and start figuring solutions out.

Aside from communication with the doctor, the patient should also communicate well with family and friends. It is important for one to feel that he is not isolated from the rest of the world just because of the difference his lesions have created in his look. Also, loved ones are the best people to provide a support system for the patient. Family members and friends, on the other hand, should learn to act towards the patient and make sure that he does not lose his sense of self-worth.

Finally, the patient should learn how to ignore reactions from the less discreet people who might react to the lesions appearing on his skin.

Fibromyalgia The Pain Of Living

As time passes, eventually all pains will have their own names. Just like the term fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition associated with pain in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding the joints. There are only theories as to the causes of fibromyalgia. Some people believe that a continual disturbance in sleep may promote the development of fibromyalgia. Depression may also be a factor in fibromyalgia. Some people get fibromyalgia after they've experienced a trauma or accident and this is called, reactive fibromyalgia. Lack of exercise and the brain not producing enough growth hormones are also potential causes of fibromyalgia.

The effects of fibromyalgia can encompass the whole body. Most people will feel the pain in their muscles, back, neck and soft tissue. The severity of the pain can bring on fatigue and the combination of both could be debilitating. Other symptoms related to fibromyalgia include headaches, problems concentrating, irritable bowel syndrome and stiffness in the mornings. Symptoms have a tendency to come and go. For some people, the symptoms maybe worse during cold and damp weather, but not all people will have all the symptoms.

There is no single test that the doctors can give to diagnose fibromyalgia, but there are two major factors that are considered, when trying to diagnose fibromyalgia. One is the presence of widespread pain, which is defined as pain on both sides of the body, above and below the waist. And the other is tender points. There are 18 designated tender points on the body so if someone feels pain in at least 11 of the tender points, then there's an increased possibility that it could be fibromyalgia. However, before fibromyalgia can be concluded as the condition certain other ailments that produce symptoms similar to fibromyalgia, have to be ruled out. Ailments such as thyroid disease, lyme disease and chronic fatigue syndrome.

There is no cure for fibromyalgia. The best anyone can do is to try to treat and control the symptoms. Some of the things people can do for themselves are exercise regularly, eat healthily and reduce stress and find ways to improve sleeping habits. Some people can get temporary relief by applying heat to their painful areas. Of course, there are also drugs that can be used in treatment. Tricyclic antidepressants have shown to be effective in improving sleep problems. New drugs like gabapentin and meloxicam are appearing to be effective in dealing with the pain of fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia appears to be a mystery disease. Nobody knows what causes it, even though it's been around for some time. Unfortunately for females, the condition affects them more than males. Because so much is still unknown about fibromyalgia, there's no way to prevent it. Trying to live with fibromyalgia appears to be the only thing people can do. The difficulty in trying to live a normal life is that the pain can be so bad that some people aren't able to work and the condition can destroy a person's social life as well. Fibromyalgia appears to be another one of life's obstacles that people must overcome.

Secrets of Successful Weight Loss

Weight loss?if we could just find the right diet we would achieve our goals, right? The sad truth is that weight loss diets, for the most part, don?t work and are becoming a thing of the past. Research shows that 85-95% of dieters regain any weight they?ve lost within 3-5 years. Most diets simply dictate what to eat and how much, and usually don?t teach us to make better food choices once we go off. When we go back to our old habits the weight comes back and we end up in a constant battle to get the weight down again.

When you quit diets and instead change to eating nutrient rich foods and enjoy fun foods in moderation, weight loss can be the natural result. Other well-known benefits include increased energy, vitality and freedom from disease. Additionally, if you stay active and eat in moderation you don?t have to give up the foods you enjoy. Yes, that means you can enjoy cake, cookies, and other treats and still lose weight when you learn how to balance them appropriately in your diet. So the BIG question is: Why don?t more of us choose a health-promoting lifestyle vs. the ?diet d?jour? in our world today?

Part of the reason is that we are conditioned in the diet mentality that the answer lies in a secret formula that will only work if we follow it rigidly. Let?s face it, we like the bells and whistles. Instead of following another weight loss diet we should pay attention to those people who have lost weight and kept it off. What did they do?

People who have successfully achieved their ideal weight and better health without dieting report the following success strategies:

?They made a commitment to changing habits long-term vs. just losing weight
?They became educated about sound nutrition principles
?They learned to cope with emotions and stress without food
?They consciously eat when their hungry and stop when their full
?They shift the focus from ?looking good? to honoring their health and well-being
?They learn to adjust portions or food intake to match activity level
?They don?t sabotage themselves, when they blow it
?They seek ongoing support as needed to stay motivated

Making positive change is possible with the right commitment, education, and support. Rather than spending precious energy and time ?going on a diet?, make a different choice. Choose high-level health so you can lose weight once and keep it off for a lifetime.

Is Gastric Bypass Right for You?

Gastric bypass is a form of weight-loss surgery done on a lot of Americans today. The reason is because more and more Americans are suffering from obesity and excessive weight problems. In some cases, a gastric bypass is the only way to make losing weight possible. For most of us, gastric bypass is merely an option. The American Society for Bariatric Surgery reports that there were more than 63,000 of such surgeries being done in the United States alone in the year 2002.

However, it is important to note that a Gastric Bypass is not the right surgery for everyone. Think carefully because a gastric bypass is a very important surgery. It is not the magical solution to your weight problems and you will need to do extensive research before you commit to it. We have to emphasize that Gastric Bypass has a very high rate of complications although the procedure may sound relatively simple and effortless. Most doctors who perform gastric bypass would advise the patient to undergo a low-calorie diet for at least 6 months before they go for gastric bypass surgery. Undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, you may have to bear with the consequence of a possible life-threatening complication as a result of the gastric bypass surgery. Your doctor would be in the best position to advice you on whether you?re right for gastric bypass. Emotional and physical issues may have to be taken into account because this is essential to your recovery after the gastric bypass surgery.

However, because of the many possible dangers of undergoing a gastric bypass surgery, the Bariatrics Society designed and launched a program called the mini gastric bypass surgery. The mini gastric bypass surgeries are the less extensive versions of the more commonly used gastric bypass surgery. The mini gastric bypass surgery actually reconfigures the stomach so that absorption of food is reduced irregardless of how much food that person consumed. A mini gastric bypass surgery also changes the way food is absorbed. The mini gastric bypass surgery takes a shorter time to perform and the recovery for the patient is quicker too. However, there aren?t that many researches and studies done on mini gastric bypass surgeries as opposed to a major gastric bypass surgeries, therefore, many insurance companies cover the major gastric bypass surgery but not the mini gastric bypass surgery!

High Blood Pressure and Ways to Reduce It

High blood pressure mainly effects the older generation. It is measured by 2 measurements, the first being the systolic blood pressure and the second being the diastolic blood pressure. Systolic is measured at the very peak when your heart is pumping out blood, and the diastolic reading is taken when your hearts between beats.

If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure there are many things you can do to help reduce it, most of which will of probably been discussed by your doctor. Lifestyle changes are the key to lowering blood pressure with regular exercise and a healthy diet being pivotal to the cause. Eating fruit and cutting down on fat is a simple way to make those dietary changes, and taking brisk walks in the park or riding a bike at a leisurely pace will help.

Smoking and drinking alcohol can also significantly increase blood pressure so cutting back or abstaining completely from these could benefit you enormously. Of course, you should find out with your doctor if alcohol personally affects you to a great extent or not ? it differs for many people. If you like the odd glass of wine or bottle of beer, talk to your doctor.

In some people medicine is the only way of controlling a high blood pressure. These medicines are called antihypertensive medicines. If you are unlucky and do require to take this type of medicine you will have to take it for your entire life to minimize the risk of heart attack or stroke. These do have side effects and once again, you should talk to your doctor about these.

The Truth About Weight Loss Marketing

Weight loss, diets and ?carbs? are common household topics. There is always a new pill or product that really is supposed to work. Whether it?s for burning fat or removing cellulite. The truth is, manufacturers are feeding on the false hopes of so many people who would do anything to lose weight and in the quickest amount of time.

Here are three red flags about weight loss marketing that the consumer should know.

1)There is no such thing as a magic pill.

There is no pill or supplement that can make you stronger, bigger or leaner. When you see models or actors in ads promoting a supplement, we need to realize that they do not look that way because of the pill they are advocating. The truth is most of these models have a genetic edge; an unhealthy exercise routine, rigid eating habits and may have had cosmetic surgery. They are promoting that supplement because they have a financial agreement to do so. Also if you look closely, you can also see in tiny print at the bottom of any magazine or television ad the words: ?These results are not typical. Must be combined with an exercise and nutrition program?. So, if a claim seems too good to be true, it probably is.

2)If a diet states that some foods are good or bad for you.

The truth is there is no such thing as a good food or a bad food. What?s really important is the quantity of that food and how often you consume it. Any diet or supplement that speaks of an energy fuel as bad is missing the boat on healthy nutrition. A proper balance is necessary not negating entire food groups to fit the newest ?diet plan?. These ?diet plans? are temporary fixes that cannot be sustained for long term and come at a costly price to your body, especially your metabolism and endocrine system. If you play around with the homeostasis of your body, you will be disappointed with the outcome. The body?s main objective is survival. Yo-yo dieting will bring you further and further away from successful weight loss. We need to wonder, if any of these diets actually worked, why is there a new one every few months? If they worked so well, why haven?t they been used towards the cure for obesity?

3)Where did we hear about the latest weight loss craze?

One thing most people do not realize is the lack of regulation in the fitness industry. There is no committee, agency or administration filtering out the inaccurate information; making the majority of what you read misleading. Most articles in local papers or current fitness magazines are feeding on the quick fix mentality and an individual?s unrealistic goals. The truth is the public is continually misinformed on how to actually lose weight and keep it off. This puts the credibility of studies and conclusions in question. There are certain steps to making a source reliable for health and fitness information. First, the studies should be published in scientific peer-reviewed journals (case studies and testimonials are not objective and science-based proof). The studies need to breplicated by an outside source. That means, by someone not linked and with no financial backing to the original study. Most often this does not happen. So many times you will see a blurb on a single study, done by Dr. X (a doctor?s name improves credibility to most people) recommending a plan or pill. This study often has many loopholes in its methods and has never been replicated for proof of credibility. Did you know that as of today, Atkins has not published one single study in a scientific peer reviewed journal? This ?diet? has been around for over twenty-five years. Do you think they?ve had enough time to do it? Then why haven?t they? The point is not to believe everything that you see or read. The credibility of the research is so important.

Keep these red flags in mind next time you pick up the latest fitness magazine or see a commercial for the next fat burning craze. Manufacturers will continue to offer products and ?fat burning? solutions to the majority of society that is struggling with their weight. It?s up to you to be skeptical of their claims and look for their credibility.
